Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Equipment Engineer to join our dynamic team in Singapore. This role is crucial for ensuring the operational readiness, reliability, and optimal performance of critical pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment. The successful candidate will provide advanced technical expertise, working closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to maintain equipment lifecycle integrity, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within a GMP-compliant environment. This position is ideal for a proactive engineer who thrives in a fast-paced operational setting and is dedicated to maintaining high standards of equipment functionality and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support & Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level technical support for complex equipment issues, including in-depth troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA), and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to minimize downtime and prevent recurrence.
Maintenance & Reliability: Develop, optimize, and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs for various pharmaceutical processing equipment (e.g., bioreactors, centrifuges, purifiers, fill-finish lines, lyophilizers, utility systems). Ensure maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP.
Performance Optimization: Monitor equipment performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency, yield, and reliability. This includes supporting process optimization projects from an equipment perspective.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all equipment-related activities, modifications, and documentation adhere to cGMP, EHS, and other relevant regulatory standards. Manage and maintain accurate equipment records, including calibration data, maintenance logs, and change controls.
System Lifecycle Management: Contribute to the full lifecycle of equipment from operational readiness review during commissioning and qualification phases, through routine operation, to decommissioning. This includes supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) from an operational perspective.
Technical Guidance & Training: Serve as a subject matter expert for equipment operations, providing technical guidance and training to junior engineers, technicians, and production personnel.
Continuous Improvement: Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging tools like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to enhance equipment reliability, reduce operational costs, and improve overall plant efficiency.
Vendor Management: Liaise with equipment vendors and service providers for technical support, spare parts, and service contracts, ensuring optimal support and maintenance.
Spare Parts Management: Optimize spare parts inventory to support equipment reliability and minimize operational disruption.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in equipment engineering within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing industry, with a strong focus on operations, maintenance, and reliability.
GMP Knowledge: In-depth understanding and practical experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA, HSA).
Technical Proficiency:
Strong hands-on experience with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex pharmaceutical process equipment.
Familiarity with various control systems (e.g., PLCs, DCS, SCADA) and instrumentation.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings (P&IDs, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings).
Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proven ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with all levels of the organization and external vendors.
Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Project Management: Experience supporting minor projects related to equipment upgrades, installations, or modifications is a plus.
