Job Description
The Automation / Application Engineer leads key automation activities within a large-scale, GMP-regulated production environment in Denmark. In this role, you take ownership of the ABB 800xA DCS platform, focusing on configuration, development, and onsite commissioning. You act as a technical bridge between process engineering and digital control, ensuring that batch operations are optimized, compliant, and reliable. This position is ideal for a specialist who thrives in hands-on troubleshooting and is capable of translating complex pharma process requirements into robust automated solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead DCS Configuration by developing and maintaining ABB 800xA applications, including graphics, control modules, and batch objects.
- Execute Batch Automation according to ISA-88 standards, managing recipes, phases, units, and transitions for pharmaceutical production.
- Drive System Optimization by supporting upgrades and modifications to existing control strategies to improve process efficiency.
- Direct Field Activities through active participation in FAT/SAT, onsite commissioning, and critical troubleshooting.
- Ensure GMP Compliance by collaborating with QA and Validation teams to deliver automation solutions that meet strict regulatory expectations.
- Maintain Technical Documentation by developing and updating functional specifications, test protocols, and change records.
- Support Daily Operations by providing expert-level technical support to address automation issues within the production environment.
- Standardize Control Architectures to ensure consistent, secure, and reliable operation of batch systems and process equipment.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Hands-on experience with the ABB 800xA platform, including extensive configuration and control module development.
- Possess a strong understanding of GMP, validation practices, and regulatory standards within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrate deep experience with batch control concepts, including recipe management and phase logic. (ISA-88 Proficiency)
- Proven track record in onsite engineering, system support, or commissioning in process-heavy industries.
- Accurately interpret P&IDs, process descriptions, and complex automation functional specifications.
- Apply structured troubleshooting techniques in fast-paced, live production environments.
- Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, Data Integrity, and integrating DCS with various PLCs or field instruments.
