Design Manager Electrical

Date Posted: December 15, 2025

Job Description

The Design Manager (Electrical) leads the development of robust power architectures for large-scale Data Center projects. In this role, you take charge of the electrical design lifecycle, from initial concept and basis of design (BOD) to final construction documentation. You ensure that all power systems—including high-voltage substations, UPS clusters, and backup generation—meet strict Tier redundancy requirements. You act as the technical authority, coordinating with external consultants and internal stakeholders to deliver energy-efficient, scalable, and highly reliable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Electrical Design Development by overseeing the creation of single-line diagrams, layouts, and technical specifications.
  • Master Power Architectures by designing redundant systems (N+1, 2N) that ensure 100% uptime for mission-critical loads.
  • Manage External Consultants to ensure that engineering deliverables align with company standards and project timelines.
  • Drive Technical Reviews of submittals, BIM models, and equipment designs to identify potential risks or installation clashes.
  • Optimize Energy Efficiency by implementing advanced power monitoring and distribution solutions to lower PUE.
  • Coordinate with Utility Providers to ensure grid connections and substation designs meet the facility’s long-term power needs.
  • Support Value Engineering by identifying cost-effective design alternatives without compromising system reliability or safety.
  • Facilitate Project Handover by providing technical guidance during the commissioning phases (Levels 1–5).

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a Professional Engineer (PE) license is a major advantage.
  • 8+ years of electrical design experience, with at least 4 years focused on Data Centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • Deep understanding of medium and low voltage distribution, UPS systems, and emergency power logic.
  • Demonstrate skills in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and power system analysis tools like ETAP or SKM.
  • Expert knowledge of local electrical codes, NFPA 70 (NEC), and Uptime Institute standards.
  • Simplify complex electrical concepts for non-technical project managers and executive stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary design workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
