Job Description
A leading pharmaceutical engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Automation / Application Engineer with strong expertise in ABB 800xA to support key automation activities within large-scale, GMP-regulated production environments.
This role is ideal for engineers with hands-on experience in batch process automation, DCS configuration, and onsite commissioning within pharma or other regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, develop, and maintain ABB 800xA DCS applications for batch and process control.
- Support upgrades, modifications, and optimisation of existing control strategies.
- Participate in FAT/SAT, commissioning, and onsite troubleshooting activities.
- Collaborate closely with process, QA, and validation teams to ensure GMP-compliant automation solutions.
- Develop and update automation documentation, including functional specifications, test protocols, and change records.
- Ensure reliable operation of batch systems in accordance with ISA-88 and pharma process requirements.
- Support day-to-day production operations by addressing automation issues and providing technical expertise.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Hands-on experience with ABB 800xA (configuration, graphics, control modules, batch objects).
- Strong understanding of GMP, validation practices, and regulatory expectations in pharmaceutical environments.
- Experience with batch control (ISA-88 concepts such as recipes, phases, units, and transitions).
- Background in onsite engineering, commissioning, or system support in process industries.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, process descriptions, and automation functional specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience integrating DCS with PLCs, field instruments, and utilities systems.
- Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity, and electronic batch record requirements.
- Prior experience in biotech, aseptic production, or large-scale pharma manufacturing.
Contract Details
- 1-year contract, with potential for extension.
- 100% onsite work in Denmark.
- Involvement in critical automation activities supporting ongoing and future production expansions.
