Job Description
The Design Manager (Mechanical) leads the development of advanced cooling systems for large-scale Data Centers. You oversee the mechanical design lifecycle from concept to final construction. Your role ensures that all cooling infrastructure—including chilled water plants and liquid-cooling systems—meets strict redundancy and efficiency targets. You act as the technical lead, coordinating consultants to deliver scalable solutions for high-density compute environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Mechanical Design by overseeing P&IDs, equipment layouts, and technical specs.
- Master Cooling Architectures by designing N+1 and 2N redundant systems for 100% uptime.
- Drive Liquid Cooling by integrating rear-door heat exchangers and direct-to-chip solutions for AI workloads.
- Manage Consultants to ensure engineering deliverables meet global standards and timelines.
- Perform Technical Reviews of BIM models and CFD reports to resolve airflow inefficiencies.
- Optimize Efficiency by implementing technologies that lower PUE and WUE.
- Support Value Engineering to find cost-effective alternatives without losing reliability.
- Facilitate Commissioning by guiding teams through functional and integrated systems testing (IST).
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; PE license is preferred.
- 8+ years in mechanical design, with 4+ years in Data Centers.
- Deep knowledge of psychrometrics, chilled water, DX systems, and BMS.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and cooling simulation tools.
- Expert understanding of ASHRAE TC 9.9 and Uptime Institute standards.
- Ability to simplify complex thermal concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong data analysis skills to optimize mechanical performance.
