Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design and engineering aspects of data centre projects. This role involves overseeing design development, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance, scalable, and energy-efficient data centres.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Oversight – Lead and manage the design process for data centre projects, ensuring alignment with project specifications, client requirements, and industry standards.
- Technical Coordination – Work closely with architects, MEP engineers, civil and structural teams to integrate all design elements efficiently.
- Regulatory Compliance – Ensure all designs meet local building codes, safety regulations, and international standards such as Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, ASHRAE, and BCA regulations.
- Stakeholder Management – Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Risk Assessment & Value Engineering – Identify design risks, propose mitigation strategies, and implement cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality and performance.
- Sustainability & Efficiency – Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design principles (e.g., liquid cooling, free air cooling, and renewable energy integration) to enhance data centre performance.
- BIM & Digital Tools Management – Oversee BIM workflows, digital twin models, and other advanced design tools for improved project coordination.
- Change Management – Evaluate and manage design changes, ensuring minimal disruptions to project timelines and budgets.
- Technical Reviews & Approvals – Conduct design reviews, approve drawings, and verify engineering calculations before construction.
- Project Documentation – Maintain accurate records of design documentation, revisions, and approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- At least 8+ years in data centre design, MEP consultancy, or construction management.
- Strong knowledge of MEP, electrical power systems (UPS, generators, substations), HVAC, fire suppression, and structured cabling.
- Familiarity with BIM (Revit), AutoCAD, Smartsheet, and project scheduling tools.
- Understanding of hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data centre requirements.
- Uptime Institute ATD (Accredited Tier Designer), LEED AP, PMP, or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
