Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Project Automation Manager to lead automation projects in the pharmaceutical sector. This role requires an experienced professional with a strong background in automation systems, project management, and the pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing automation projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and optimizing automation processes to meet the stringent requirements of the pharma industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage automation projects in the pharmaceutical sector, ensuring successful execution within budget and timelines
- Oversee the design, development, and commissioning of automation systems used in pharmaceutical production, including PLCs, SCADA, and DCS
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure automation systems meet cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) standards and industry regulations (FDA, EMA, etc.)
- Manage the procurement and coordination of automation equipment and vendor relationships
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including QA/QC, validation, and production, to ensure automation systems align with manufacturing needs and quality requirements
- Ensure all automation projects are documented according to regulatory requirements, including change controls, risk assessments, and validation protocols
- Develop and maintain project schedules, track progress, and resolve any issues that may impact project timelines or objectives
- Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies related to automation systems and processes
- Review and approve project deliverables, including system designs, testing plans, and commissioning reports
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and team members
- Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in automation technology
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in automation systems within the pharmaceutical industry or regulated environments
- Strong understanding of PLC, SCADA, DCS systems, and automation control in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as cGMP, FDA, EMA, and 21 CFR Part 11
- Proven project management experience, with the ability to oversee complex, cross-functional projects
- Excellent knowledge of automation validation processes and commissioning in the pharmaceutical context
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar)
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in high-pressure situations
- PMP, PRINCE2, or similar project management certification is a plus
