Job Description
A leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing site in Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee a portfolio of high-visibility capital and construction projects. This is a hands-on, onsite role where you take full ownership of the project lifecycle—from initial scope and design to construction, commissioning, and final turnover. You will act as the primary driver of project delivery, ensuring that all engineering partners and contractors execute work safely and efficiently within an active, mission-critical GMP environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Project Planning by developing project scopes, user requirements (URS), budgets, and master schedules for capital investments.
- Oversee Design Efforts from conceptual to detailed phases, ensuring all engineering packages align with site standards and regulatory expectations.
- Drive Field Execution as the primary onsite point of contact, providing daily oversight of contractor activities and resolving site issues in real-time.
- Manage Construction Safety by developing safety plans and partnering with EHS to ensure zero-harm performance in a live production environment.
- Coordinate Cross-Functional Teams including Manufacturing, Facilities, Quality, and Validation to ensure seamless project integration.
- Control Project Finances by managing procurement, change controls, and budget tracking from project kickoff to close-out.
- Direct Commissioning & Startup activities, ensuring all systems and utilities are installed, tested, and qualified according to requirements.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance by interfacing with local authorities and inspectors to maintain all necessary permits and building codes.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
- 6–10 years of experience in capital projects or construction management within Biotech, Pharma, or regulated industrial settings.
- Possess strong experience overseeing utilities, process systems, and equipment installs in a GMP environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead multi-million-dollar projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Deep understanding of building, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection codes.
- Excel at navigating active construction sites and managing diverse vendor and contractor teams.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to interface effectively with both site laborers and executive leadership.
