Job Description
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Electrical Engineer will provide deep technical expertise in electrical systems design, installation, and optimisation for complex engineering projects. This role involves working closely with project teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing expert-level guidance on electrical infrastructure, power distribution, and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for electrical engineering aspects of projects, ensuring best practices and adherence to industry standards.
- Design, evaluate, and optimise electrical power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS, and backup power solutions.
- Provide expert guidance on troubleshooting, failure analysis, and performance improvements of electrical systems.
- Conduct risk assessments, power system studies, and load flow analysis to ensure system stability and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NFPA, BS7671), and company policies.
- Support project teams in developing electrical specifications, reviewing design documentation, and managing risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with mechanical, automation, and controls engineers to integrate electrical systems seamlessly.
- Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams.
- Assist in vendor selection, procurement, and quality assurance of electrical components and systems.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and audits to verify compliance with installation and operational standards.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with expertise in data centre constructions.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution, electrical protection systems, and energy efficiency optimisation.
- Experience with electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, SKM PowerTools).
- Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC, IEEE, NFPA, and local electrical codes.
- Proven ability to solve complex electrical engineering challenges and optimise system performance.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent certification is a plus.
