Job Description

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Mechanical Engineer will provide specialised expertise in mechanical systems design, installation, and optimisation for complex engineering projects. This role involves working closely with project teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing technical guidance to improve system efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for mechanical engineering aspects of projects, ensuring best practices and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Design, evaluate, and optimise mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, rotating equipment, and structural components.
  • Provide expert guidance on troubleshooting, failure analysis, and performance improvements of mechanical systems.
  • Support project teams with technical specifications, design reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry codes (e.g., ASME, ISO, API), and company policies.
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions to enhance energy efficiency, reliability, and system longevity.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, automation, and process engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
  • Lead technical training and mentorship programmes for junior engineers and project teams.
  • Assist in vendor selection, procurement, and quality assurance of mechanical components and systems.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and audits to verify proper installation and operation of mechanical systems.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with expertise in data centre constructions.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical system design, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and materials science.
  • Experience with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, Revit MEP).
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME, API, ISO, and local building codes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to provide innovative solutions to complex mechanical challenges.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent certification is a plus.
