Job Description
The Senior Commissioning Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the commissioning process for data centre projects, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and critical infrastructure systems are tested and fully operational before handover. This role involves close coordination with stakeholders, contractors, and engineering teams to ensure compliance with performance, safety, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, schedules, and strategies for data centre projects.
- Lead the commissioning process across all phases, from design review to integrated systems testing and final handover.
- Manage and oversee testing and validation of critical systems, including power (HV/LV), cooling, fire protection, and automation systems.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, ISO, BICSI, NFPA).
- Coordinate with project managers, design engineers, and contractors to resolve technical and operational issues.
- Conduct risk assessments, root cause analysis, and quality assurance reviews to ensure system reliability and uptime.
- Maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation, reports, and progress tracking records.
- Drive best practices in commissioning methodologies to optimise energy efficiency and data centre performance.
- Lead commissioning meetings, training sessions, and knowledge transfer activities for internal teams and client representatives.
- Provide technical expertise on troubleshooting, maintenance strategies, and operational readiness of data centre infrastructure.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in commissioning management, with at least 5 years in data centre projects.
- Strong knowledge of mission-critical systems, including UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling, and BMS.
- Proven track record in leading end-to-end commissioning activities for large-scale data centre projects.
- Familiarity with commissioning standards such as ASHRAE, IST, Level 1-5 commissioning, and Uptime Institute Tier classifications.
- Experience with commissioning software and tools (e.g., Commissioning Management Software, Building Automation Systems).
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CxA, LEED AP, PMP) are a plus.
